Practicum

The Institute for Integrative Care's Yoga Therapy Clinical Practicum is a total of 170 delivery hours with an additional 30 hours of Mentoring. Trainees will be eligible to begin their practicum after one year of training within the 500 Hour Professional Yoga Therapy Program. Once trainees qualify, their first practicum mentoring session will be an orientation to review their Yoga Therapy Toolsets, Assessment Methods and ability to facilitate yoga therapy. The Practicum is comprised of 170 hours delivering Yoga Therapy and documentation on clinical delivery with 30 hours working directly with their assigned mentor while under the guidance of clinical instruction.

Trainees are required to facilitate in real time 100 Hours with clients 1:1 providing person centered experiences addressing physical, energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of wellbeing through intake, assessment, observation and implementing yoga therapy tools. Practicum Delivery Forms serve as post observations to ensure the trainee’s ability to integrate information from the intake and assessments to apply yoga therapy knowledge and address conditions, goals and aspirations.

Trainees are required to facilitate 70 Hours for group yoga therapy. This includes their ability to design and implement group programs and series with a therapeutic focus on a therapeutic issue. Post observation is delivered through practicum delivery forms to ensure yoga therapy skills for a group cohort are being utilized, assessed and addressed. Trainees have the option of working inclusive fulfilling therapeutic group requests such as providing a Therapeutic Yoga for Diabetes class to the local diabetes nonprofit or developing a therapeutic program focused on a specific need working consecutively over a period of weeks with the same cohort.

These hours are fulfilled after the first year of yoga therapy training and continued throughout the following 2-3 years for eligibility to graduate. This allows trainees to apply knowledge learned throughout the training as they learn more skillsets through each module, course and integration.

Delivery hours include actual facilitation of yoga therapy. Post Observation, Practicum Delivery Forms and Program Development is not included in the 170 Hours of Yoga Therapy Delivery. Trainees have access to their mentor as they need for feedback and support in preparation and reflection of yoga therapy delivery. 30 Hours of the practicum are delegated for 1 or 2 hour mentoring sessions and training 1:1 with the Program Director over their duration of the Professional Yoga Therapy Program.
