Absolutely! Many participants join to deepen their personal practice, explore self-care, or gain tools for personal growth, without the intention of teaching. We believe that self knowing is a path of self liberation. To "create a life we do not need to escape from" really begins in knowing ourselves so we can have clarity, confidence and self awareness for the choices we choose that make the portfolio of our lives. There are so many gems in our trainings that offer perspectives, tools and reflection for self knowing, deepening your practice and nourishing your life on and off the mat.

During Training
What is expected of you during training?
You are expected to utilize Voxer during training, schedule your 1:1 mentoring sessions, attend zoom classes and integration sessions. You get out what you put in. We do everything we can to accommodate calendar for our students through requests three months ahead and exploring ways to make it accessible to you. Participation requires presence, should you not utilize the components of the training experience such as Monday with Mel, Voxer, Mentoring, etc- it may compromise your ability to complete the program.
Why is all of this important, especially in the Module Format?
Though Yoga Alliance only requires 30 hours of contact training hours for the 200 hour and 45 hours of contact training for the 300 hour in online programs, we believe it is essential to the quality of experience, training and person centered approach we believe in that makes the training experience the magic it is. Only attending workshops on pathway plan does not offer the full training experience. We are all adults and we cannot force you to schedule your mentoring sessions for example, but by enrolling in our trainings you are saying yes to making it a priority for yourself to attend, respond to emails and Voxer.
How are hours acquired through the module training experience?
Workshops are attended live via zoom. It is expected for you to attend classes on your pathway to complete the program. In addition, we require attendance for Integration Sessions (occurring monthly), Mentoring 1:1 Sessions (occurring monthly), Practice Teaching "Popcorn" Yoga Sessions (occurring weekly), Voxering with Mel, Monday with Mel activities, homework and practices, and practice teaching forms. Should you not put forth the participation in all of these aspects of the training, it could compromise your ability to complete the program. All the components matter in the training experience and students who do not utilize these components will not be considered eligible for completing the training. Graduation is based on participation and completion of required classes and components. Mel is open to supporting you in your unique needs and giving additional options to ensure the experience celebrates your unique interests and is tailored in a way that supports your goals. An example of this is if required reading is not resonating, Mel will suggest other reading options that may honor your interests within the program or teach the same concept but in a different light.
What should I bring to training?
- For in-studio trainings: Bring a yoga mat, notebook, pen, any assigned reading materials, and any props/blankets etc that make the experience cozier. We do our best to move around often during the experience but in workshop we usually sit in a circle on the floor so bring whatever makes it cozy. Bolsters are provided and generally yoga props are provided. Bring your own if you prefer to use your own. Comfortable clothing for movement is also recommended. We do take breaks during the training experience.
- For Zoom Training workshops: Be sure to set up in a cozy space with your computer. We recommend attending zoom via your computer but understand if you need to use your phone. But we recommend using your computer for workshops. Have a yoga mat near by just in case we do activities or a practice and it is expected for you to participate in breakout rooms, discussion and leaving your camera on for at least 50% of class. We take a 5 minute break at the top of the hour.
What if I miss a session, can I make it up?
Yes, missed sessions can typically be made up through additional assignments or online workshops. For in person, if you miss more than 3 weekends you will be given the option to move into the online module format. For those in the online module format, workshops cycle every three months- it is your responsibility to inform Mel or respond to her email requesting on what classes you need and when you are available.
Will I have access to course material after graduation?
You will always have access to On Demand, the Alumni Dashboard and Mondays with Mel after you graduate.
How do I practice teaching during training?
Trainees are expected to attend the practice teaching sessions called "Popcorn Yoga" during their training experience. These sessions are offered weekly and swap times each month to accommodate to everyone's unique schedules. It is expected that students in training attend at least 10 of these sessions. In class (in-studio and on zoom), trainees will have opportunities to practice teaching and are also invited to practice teaching to friends and family during the training experience. We believe that it is a rumor until it lives in the body. Practice teaching is essential for developing the craft of teaching yoga. For module online students- you will also have opportunity to practice teaching in mentoring sessions. We highly highly encourage to lean into all of these opportunities because teaching gets so much easer AS you do it. We hope to create an environment that makes it really natural that by the time you graduate the teaching part is very simple and with ease. Completing Yoga Class Forms is also very helpful or this! From both personal experience and training hundreds of students- this makes a huge difference in someone who feels ready to teach vs. not. Developing your craft does not come alone from theory or education but through practice and participation.
How do I connect with other students in the training?
Engagement in class and breakout rooms naturally foster connection. Attend integration session and the extracurricular experiences such as book club, meet ups and more. Depending on the training you may also have opportunities to partner and work with another student in the training program if you desire and the in person trainings, we have our group text which makes connecting 1:1 very easy. We encourage this and highly recommend practicing and working with your classmates outside of class.
What kind of assignments will I have?
Each workshop will offer and invite application or homework to develop and work on. You have Voxer also so please do not neglect using that during the experience as it is a powerful space to integrate and implement what you are learning. Assignments may include reading, journaling, creating sequences, practicing teaching, and reflecting on personal experiences. Monday with Mel always includes four things minimum to work on: a pose for the week, a practice for the week, something for the mind and something for the spirit.
How do I track my classes or record my hours during training?
At enrollment we give a few suggestions on ways to organize and track. Your attendance is counted by actual attendance in zoom. If you arrive to zoom 15 minutes after start time we cannot let you in as it is disruptive to the class experience. If you leave early, that is noted by the instructor and could comprise the class credit. We also have forms for class tracking and if you fully immerse in the things we offer in the module training, more than likely you will exceed the 200 hours. By participating in the module format, there is a level of self responsibility necessary to complete it. If you are struggling in the online 200 hour, discuss with Mel options to transfer into the in person or explore other possibilities.

What is Yoga Therapy compared to general yoga classes?
Yoga Therapy is a personalized and therapeutic approach to yoga often in the context of a specific health condition or personal need. While general yoga classes focus on group instruction and a broader practice, Yoga Therapy includes a consultation process, tailors yogic philosophy, yoga psychology and practices to the individual’s specific needs, such as injuries, chronic conditions, or stress. Yoga Therapy focuses on integrating tools as adjunct care for health and generally is facilitated in a 1:1 session or small group setting.
Do I need a referral to start Yoga Therapy?
No referral is required to begin Yoga Therapy. You can self-refer by contacting MelMarie Yoga directly. However, if you are working with a healthcare provider, Yoga Therapy can complement your existing treatment plan.
Can my insurance cover Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy is not universally covered by insurance, but there are specific circumstances and strategies through which it can be reimbursed or billed as part of a broader healthcare approach. The approaches are not limited to what is below as the industry continues to change but this demonstrates what we know at this time.
1. Some health savings accounts (HSAs) or flexible spending accounts (FSAs) may reimburse for Yoga Therapy if it is prescribed by a healthcare provider. Some private insurance plans offer coverage for complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), which may include Yoga Therapy. Check your benefits with your insurance plan to see if you are eligible.
2. Your health care provider, therapist or physical therapist may contract with your yoga therapist and bill yoga therapy through their clinic. We are open to working with clinics and orchestrating this with your providers if they are open to this as an option. This can work with us partnering with your mental health clinic or physical therapist. Private practices are more open to this option than larger corporate health care but yoga therapy is a growing field and there is a lot of efforts occurring to get Yoga Therapy covered. Conditions that may apply are chronic pain, stress-related disorders, anxiety, or mobility impairments. Your Yoga Therapist can aid the clinic with the CPT codes that may apply.
3. By working with a licensed professional who is also a Yoga Therapist there may be more access for coverage.
4. Many employers offer wellness programs that include reimbursement for yoga or mindfulness practices. Employees can often submit Yoga Therapy expenses for reimbursement as part of workplace health initiatives. Check with the employer’s HR or wellness program administrator for eligibility.
5. Community Health Grants: Some states or organizations offer grants for complementary therapies, including Yoga Therapy, as part of public health initiatives. Nonprofits may also offer this. We currently work with a few organizations and in the past have partnered with organizations who fund Yoga Therapy for eligible community members. You can request directly with a nonprofit that serves your needs.
Can these be adapted for individuals with injuries and mobility challenges?
Absolutely! Yoga Therapy is highly adaptable and designed to meet you where you are. Practices can be modified for physical injuries, limitations, chronic pain, mobility challenges and much more.
What is Jyotish?
Jyotish, also known as Vedic Astrology, is an ancient system rooted in the Vedas, designed to provide insights into your life’s cycles, strengths, and challenges. It looks at your Ayurvedic constitution, elemental imbalances, lessons and your nature. Yoga practices and resources can be tailored from your chart to aid pacifying tendencies, imbalances and patterns and aligning with natural cycles for personal growth and nourishment. It is a powerful modality and tool to deepen into self awareness and align practices with your energetic blueprint.
