Hour Trauma Informed Yoga Certification

This self-paced Hour Trauma-Informed Yoga Certification is designed for yoga teachers, wellness providers, and helping professionals ready to deepen their ability to serve through a trauma-sensitive lens. Rooted in the foundations of yoga, neuroscience, and integrative health, this training blends evidence-informed education with accessible, embodied application.

You’ll explore key areas such as trauma recovery, nervous system regulation, the prana vayus, and trauma-informed yoga nidra. We dive deep into teaching principles, scope of practice, and what it truly means to teach with awareness, accountability, and care. You'll gain tools to work one-on-one, adapt practices for diverse needs, and integrate yoga philosophy into trauma-informed spaces. The training includes over eight hours of chakra-based application, Ayurvedic psychology, and teachings on yoga for anxiety and depression bringing therapeutic insight to your teaching.

Alongside the self-paced curriculum, you’ll have access to ongoing Voxer coaching support, so you have instant access to support, sound boarding and personal application with Mel directly for the communities and context you wish to serve. 

Trauma-sensitive yoga has become a buzzword in wellness spaces and while we’re grateful it’s gaining attention, this training goes far deeper than trendy language or surface-level adaptations. What we’re offering is a meaningful and comprehensive education rooted in the understanding that everything we teach from cueing and sequencing to philosophy and presence must be trauma-informed if we are truly here to serve. This training is about more than learning techniques; it’s about shifting your lens. We aim to equip you with a grounded, embodied, and culturally aware foundation so you can lead with integrity, adapt with clarity, and hold space with genuine care. Whether you're already teaching or just beginning, this program helps you step into your role as a trauma-informed practitioner with confidence, depth, and purpose.

Course Overview

This course comes with two options: 

35 Hour Independent Study with Mentoring Access | Through our exclusive training online platform, participants will journey through the classes at their own pace following along with their training manual with access for Voxer mentoring with Mel. 

70 Hour Hybrid Study Format | Including everything that comes with Independent Study, this path offers a more comprehensive training experience with access to a pathway plan of thirteen 2 hour workshops attending live zoom workshops, integration sessions, and special access to resources.

*At MelMarie Yoga, everything we teach comes from a trauma informed context and all of our full training programs equip students with trauma sensitive competencies to deliver from this approach. This is perfect for those who either want to deepen into their work with trauma informed teachings, who came from trainings that did not cover these competencies or want to review yoga psychology applied to trauma informed approaches. 

35 HOUR INDEPENDENT STUDY OVERVIEW 

Courses include Overview, Epistemology, Foundations in Neuroscience, Foundations in Physiology, Pranayama and Vayus, Art of Living Well, Modifications, Private Instruction, Yoga Nidra Foundations, Yoga Psychology, Kleshas, Obstacles, States of the Mind, Body Scans, Welcoming Presence, Responsibility and Meaningful Use, Discerning Implementation, Inner Resources, Referrals, Research, Eight Limbs of Yoga, Ayurveda and the Mind, Health Care, Depression and Anxiety, Chakras and Neural Mapping, Trauma Informed Communication and more...

This structure includes 24/7 access to Mel for six months for sound boarding, application and mentoring. It also includes lifetime access and a training manual to complement the journey. 

70 HOUR HYBRID STUDY OVERVIEW

This structure includes everything that comes with Independent Study and a rotating schedule for accessing zoom workshops that include trauma recovery, the vagus nerve, svadhyaya, mindfulness based stress reduction, mindful coping for kids, eating disorder recovery, pain management, science of savasana, mindfulness for mental health, power of intention, adherence and overcoming obstacles, cultivating a self empowered process and styles of pranayama. 

These classes coincide with our yoga teacher training programs on zoom with a schedule that is based on your requests and rotates every three months. Participants have one year to complete the training for certification eligibility.

This includes monthly integration sessions on zoom, access to popcorn yoga to practice delivery of trauma sensitive yoga and 24/7 access to Mel for sound boarding, application and mentoring. 

Course Objectives

  • Develop a trauma-informed lens to guide how you teach, communicate, and hold space—rooted in both yoga philosophy and contemporary science.
  • Understand the foundations of trauma and recovery, including how trauma impacts the nervous system, physiology, behavior, and breath.
  • Learn to design and deliver yoga practices that are accessible, adaptable, and supportive for trauma-sensitive populations, including one-on-one and group settings.
  • Gain confidence in teaching through a therapeutic lens, using pranayama, yoga psychology, and yoga nidra with care and intention.
  • Integrate trauma-informed principles into sequencing, cueing, and language, while maintaining clarity around scope of practice and ethical responsibility as yoga teachers.
  • Deepen your understanding of the eight limbs of yoga, the chakras, and Ayurveda, applying these teachings in a way that is culturally aware and trauma-sensitive.
  • Explore the role of yoga in health care and integrative settings, and learn how to advocate for and offer yoga as a complementary support tool for mental and emotional wellness.
  • Strengthen your ability to support those navigating anxiety, depression, or emotional dysregulation, with tools informed by therapeutic yoga.

You can begin your independent study right away, moving through the modules at your own rhythm, with ongoing access to Voxer coaching support as you go. If you choose the Hybrid option, you’ll also receive a complimentary enrollment session with Mel to personalize your path, get grounded in the material, and receive intentional guidance as you begin. Whether you’re choosing to move fully independently or with extra mentorship, this training is designed to meet you where you are.
