Journal Club Mission
The mission of Journal Club is to bridge the gap between yoga and the scientific community, promoting evidence-based understanding and practices. Our goal is to delve into the scientific literature that supports the efficacy of yoga as a complementary approach in healthcare. By doing so, we aim to elevate the practice of yoga, underscoring its value as a legitimate and beneficial component of integrative medicine. We strive to empower yoga teachers with knowledge and tools to advocate for yoga's role in promoting health and well-being in various medical and wellness settings.
How it Works/What to Expect
Journal Club meets once a month in a collaborative and interactive environment. Each session is centered around the discussion of a selected scientific journal article that highlights the benefits and applications of yoga in integrative care.
Here’s what participants can expect from our meetings:
- Pre-Meeting Preparation: Prior to each meeting, a scientific journal article will be selected and shared with all members. This will serve as the foundation for our discussion, encouraging members to read and reflect on the material beforehand.
- Guided Discussion: Meetings will commence with a brief overview of the article, followed by a facilitated discussion. This will include examining the methodology, findings, and implications of the research, as well as discussing its relevance to yoga practice and teaching.
- Expert Insights: Occasionally, we will invite guest speakers, such as researchers, healthcare professionals, or experienced yoga practitioners, to provide deeper insights and broaden our perspectives.
- Practical Applications: Discussions will not only focus on theoretical knowledge but also on practical applications. We will explore how the insights from the journal article can be integrated into yoga teaching and practice, particularly in contexts of health and wellness.
- Community Engagement: Members will have the opportunity to share their experiences, challenges, and insights, fostering a supportive community of like-minded individuals. This exchange of ideas will enhance both personal and professional growth.
- Resources and Continued Learning: Members will have access to a repository of past journal articles and other resources for ongoing learning and reference.
By participating in Journal Club, members will gain a deeper understanding of the scientific principles underpinning yoga, enhance their teaching methodologies, and be better equipped to advocate for the role of yoga in integrative health care. Our club is more than just a forum for discussion; it's a movement towards elevating the practice of yoga through science and shared knowledge.
